The ReidOut with Joy Reid

Joy Reid commemorates the eve of the Capitol insurrection

Episode Summary

Joy Reid leads The ReidOut tonight on the eve of the anniversary of the Capitol insurrection. One year ago this Wednesday night, all the pieces were in place for Donald Trump to attempt something that has never been done in this country. There were at least four memos circulating among Trump's inner circle -- and all of them proposed a version of the same unprecedented scheme: To pressure Mike Pence and get enough Republican House and Senate members to reject Democratic votes on Jan. 6. Next, Merrick Garland's speech today was about the one year anniversary of a literal and unprecedented attack on American democracy and an ongoing domestic terrorism threat that is still putting Americans and democracy at risk. Former U.S. Senator Al Franken joins us to discuss. Then, we turn to Chicago, where the teachers union voted to temporarily transition to remote learning, a move that prompted public schools officials to cancel classes for Wednesday -- insisting that students need to return to classrooms. Plus, Florida community activist Ben Frazier was handcuffed on Tuesday as he tried to attend Gov. Ron DeSantis' press conference. He joins Joy Reid with his story. Finally, in tonight's edition of "The Absolute Worst," Joy observes that: "At this point it's pretty clear to everyone that Republicans are unwilling to ever accept defeat in an election." All this and more in this edition of The ReidOut on MSNBC.
